The White Stripes Split Up

It's no surprise considering we haven't heard much from them since 2007, but today it has become official that The White Stripes are done.

The band's official website posted the announcement saying, "The reason is not due to artistic differences or lack of wanting to continue, nor any health issues as both Meg and Jack are feeling fine and in good health. It's for a myriad of reasons, but mostly to preserve what is beautiful and special about the band and have it stay that way.'

The statement also made it clear that White's Third Man Records will "continue to put out unreleased live and studio recordings," but as far as creating new material or sharing the stage again, that journey seems to be over.

However, you will continue to see plenty of Jack White as he will continue to be super busy as a producer as well as a member of The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather.

In signing off, Jack and Meg themselves offered the fans some last words:

"The White Stripes do not belong to Meg and Jack anymore. The White Stripes belong to you now and you can do with it whatever you want. The beauty of art and music is that it can last forever if people want it to. Thank you for sharing this experience. Your involvement will never be lost on us and we are and we are truly grateful."

To honor one of America's biggest rock bands, look back at their music video for "We're Going To Be Friends" and see them live on.
