Pete Wentz has revealed his new band offers him the chance to "try something different".

The former Fall Out Boy bassist - who is married to 'Pieces of Me' hitmaker Ashlee Simpson - admitted when the group first went on hiatus, he didn't know what to do with himself, but he is now pleased he has been given a break to focus on something new.

Writing on new band Black Cards website, he said: "When FOB went on hiatus, I wasn't really sure what to do with myself. I know I wanted to keep travelling the world with my family. We had been to Jamaica recently. I spent a lot of time hanging around the beaches and I started to get inspired again.

"I started collaborating via email with my friend Sam, who I knew from working on 'As Cruel as School Children'. He had been listening to a lot of old British stuff and we mashed that with the island vibe in the studio."

The 'Sugar, We're Goin Down' hitmaker - who announced Fall Out Boy would be taking an "indefinite hiatus" last year - admitted he feels the new tracks he has laid down with Black Cards will have an "everlasting imprint" on people.

He explained: "I could imagine them having an everlasting imprint, like people would dance to this stuff forever. I could feel these songs really meant something. Not just in Jamaica but globally, crossing through culture and language.

"I know this won't be for everyone but honestly it's a chance for me to try something different."
