Joey Santiago Unsure of Pixies Future?
Pixies guitarist Joey Santiago thinks the band could split up at any time.
The guitarist in the reformed grunge group - who got back together and have toured since 2004 but released no new material - said he thinks one of the reasons fans come to the shows is because they think they'll may never get the opportunity again, and admits he shares their worries.
Joey told artistdirect.com: "People thought it was acrimonious when we split so having us back on stage, people think we may never come around again because of that - which I never know if that is the case or not. It's at that point where I never know."
The band originally broke up in 1993 because of tensions between singer and guitarist Frank Black and bass player Kim Deal, but in the years before they reformed, the band's fanbase grew hugely as they were cited as influences by a number of groups, particularly Nirvana, whose lead singer Kurt Cobain was a massive fan of the band.
Joey admitted he was always curious about reforming and added that he loves the fact the band are now playing to larger audiences across the world.
He added: "Every two years or every year, people would ask if there would be a reunion and I never thought it would happen. I got the call and thought, 'this is exiting.'
"That excitement is carrying on and we get to go to South America next and we had never been there. They will go crazy. Literally. It's good."
