With sincere and intimate ballads and passionate performances, it is very clear that singer/songwriter Robert Francis grew up surrounded by music.

His father is a classical music producer and is the owner of one of the largest collections of sheet music in the U.S., and as result, Robert was encouraged to learn piano at an early age. His mother, who grew up in a small town in Mexico, urged her son to play the guitar so that he could play the traditional ranchera songs she grew up singing with her nine sisters.

When Robert was just nine years old, a family friend gave him his first National Slide guitar as a gift. The rest is history.

Roxwel had a chance to sit down with Robert Francis backstage of the Parish in Austin, TX to talk about touring, labels, music videos and his booming career as a musician.

A true performer, Francis claims that he plays shows with the same energy regardless of the crowd's size. "It could be the biggest show in the world or the smallest," he says, "And I still approach it in exactly just one way....and hope the audience reacts well."

The multi-instrumentalist has experienced national and international success and started off on his own indie label, but fairly recently decided to take on the challenge of being signed to a major label in order to have a "real force behind [him]."

The talented musician also writes his own music videos, although he admits that it can be scary to put yourself out there in a video because "you can very easily destroy your image by portraying yourself in different types of ways."
