As they say, these guys need no introduction. But in case you're wondering before reading on, here's your one-and-only 30 Seconds To Mars.
Before their show at Stubbs in Austin, TX, Jared and Shannon Leto and Tomo Milicevic sat down with Roxwel host Toby Ryan to discuss how excited they are to have released their most recent album, This Is War, the way Shannon & Jared grew up around music and surprising stories about Jared digging through trash for aged balsamic vinegar.
Founded in 1998 by brothers Shannon and Jared, the band originally began as a small family project. While the band has grown to be a worldwide success throughout the years, Shannon claims that he feels like they are " still the band in the garage."
Agreeing with Shannon that their success has been "the experience of a lifetime," Jared admits that it was his older brother and fellow family members who really turned him on to music in the first place. Revealing that his mother was very musical and that he and his brother grew up going to festivals, Jared says, "Music was always something that was just around."
Although they were hit with a $30 million lawsuit by their former record label claiming that they failed to deliver contract requirements, the band was excited to release their latest album, This Is War - a fitting title considering the major dispute.
With diverse and enthusiastic fans worldwide, award-winning records and sold out shows, the members are grateful and humbled by the band's ongoing support and good fortune. Inspired by the passion of their fans, Jared claims that "it's a really great thing to learn that hard work does pay off, and if you're willing to walk the path of the dreamer and fight the fight that you can make some of your wildest fantasies come true...and we certainly have been lucky enough to see that happen."
Not quite ready to stop chatting, the guys continued to tell us some exclusive stories of the road. In addition to being a badass rocker, Jared Leto has a reputation of being "quite the touring chef," sharing that he gets excited about aged balsamic vinegar and has even dug through a can of garbage to retrieve an expensive bottle that was accidentally tossed.
