Steel Cranes

Roxwel is excited to team up with Oakland-based duo Steel Cranes to premiere their new video, "Drowning In The Bathtub."

The latest video by Steel Cranes is a lighthearted viewpoint on an otherwise emotionally heavy tune. Tracy Shapiro, the singing and guitar-playing half of the group explains, “It’s pretty much a pop song about depression. I wrote ‘Drowning In The Bathtub’ after spending a lazy afternoon on the porch of a friend. He had just been left by the woman he loved deeply, and I had such a heavy feeling of uselessness when he began to open up about his feelings of devastation about it.”

“The video takes those ideas, but brings some humor to the fact that it’s pretty easy to pretend everything’s okay when it’s not,” explains drummer Amanda Schukle. The duo handled the production of the clip themselves, including the photography, editing, and choreography. “We even handled the mint chocolate chip ice cream eating,” jokes Schukle. “We briefly thought about having body doubles actually consume the ice cream because, as professional rock stars, we obviously only consume whiskey and cigarettes.”

The debut Steel Cranes album Ouroboros is out now. Produced by the band and engineered by Eli Crews (tUnE-yArDs, Deerhoof), the record captures raw energy in a way that is rarely heard on records these days.  As Shapiro explains, “It was essential to us that the tension that comes with our live performance be present on the album.”

MTV Buzzworthy recently described the Steel Cranes as “the slo-mo heaviness of a 2,000-pound pendulum” with “as much grit as an abandoned highway, and a fearless sense of rock ‘n’ roll.”  The album is streaming via the band’s hometown blog The Bay Bridged now.  Steel Cranes is currently on a nationwide tour in support of the record.

We're so excited about the launch of our Roxwel site redesign and hope you are too!!  And just in case you're wondering where some of our site features went - and what's new - there's info below on the Navigation Bar/Genres, Party Mode, Playlists, Your Account and Social Media Integrations.

NAVIGATION BAR/GENRES
Our new tabbed navigation bar features Artists, Videos, Shows, Events, News, Contests and Shop.  We did away with the Genres tabs, but you can still search by Genre through the Artists and Videos tabs.

Artists
The Artists tab allows you to search by All Artists and Artist Charts.

If you click All Artists, you can discover music by choosing Popular (site overall), Newest, Trending (currently popular), Alphabetical or By Country.  You can filter further by Genre, choosing Exclusive (Artists with whom we've shot a concert or interview), Rock, Metal and Indie.  You can also filter by Tag, which is anything that comes to mind about a band when we're uploading a video to the site (e.g. interview, rock, live performance, austin, etc.).

By clicking Artist Charts, you can view charting for the current week and up to four weeks prior, which displays the top 50-100 artists on Roxwel.  The Artist Charts default to All Genres, but you can also break the charts down by Genre (Rock, Metal, Indie).

Videos
The Videos tab allows you to search by All Videos, Video Charts and Now Watching.

If you click All Videos, you can narrow your search by choosing Popular Videos (site overall), Trending Videos (currently popular), Featured Videos (editor's picks) and Original Shows.  You can filter further by Genre, choosing Exclusive (videos of concerts and interviews we've shot), Rock, Metal and Indie.  You can also filter by Tag, which is anything that comes to mind about a video when we're uploading it to the site (e.g. interview, rock, live performance, austin, etc.).

By clicking Video Charts, you can view charting for the current week and up to four weeks prior, which displays the top 50-100 videos on Roxwel.  The Video Charts default to All Genres, but you can also break the charts down by Genre (Rock, Metal, Indie).

Now Watching is just that - what's being watched by users like you in real time.

Shows
The Shows tab brings you to a page listing all of our Original Shows: Roxwel In Concert, UnCut, SXSW Music Festival Coverage, Fun Fun Fun Fest Coverage, Artist Commentary, Austin City Limits Music Festival, Lollapalooza, Video Games, Overdose, Metal Supply, 101x In Studio and The Metal Minute.  The four most recent episodes of each show are clickable from this page.

Events
The Events tab takes you to a page listing upcoming events in your area. You can search for events in different cities and date ranges (Any Date, Next Week, Next Month or Custom Range), too.  Map View pin-points the location of each event by day.  There are also links for Tickets on the page, as well as an I'm Going button.

News
The News tab takes you to the Roxwel News page.  The four most recent articles are clickable at the top, which are followed by the articles in full.  You can also browse the top three most Popular, Recent and Commented on articles to the right of the page.

Contests
The Contests tab takes you to the Roxwel Contests page, which lists any contests we are currently running.  You can also check out contests we've run in the past by clicking Past Contests and/or All Contests.

Shop
The Shop tab takes you to our sister company, TourGigs, where you can buy DVDs, Blu-rays and downloads of full concerts that we've filmed.

PARTY MODE
Party Mode is our Pandora-style music recommendation engine.  You can turn Party Mode on in the top Navigation Bar and on the All Artists page. Finding an Artist Channel works the same as discovering an artist via the All Artists page.  You can narrow down your search of an Artist Channel by clicking Popular (site overall), Newest, Trending (currently popular), Alphabetical or By Country.

Once you choose an Artist Channel, you're taken to the video player page. Here, a video from that artist begins to play, followed by videos by artists our music recommendation technology finds similar.  You can skip a video by hovering over the player and clicking Next - or by clicking the Next arrow on the Playlist toolbar at the bottom of the page as the Artist Channel essentially becomes a playlist once Party Mode turns on.  Party Mode will keep you entertained all day and night long until you turn it off!

PLAYLISTS
If you hover over a video thumbnail, you have the option to add that video to a playlist.  You can either create a new playlist or add the video to an existing playlist.  Playlists will be stored for 30 days even if you don't make an account and login.

The Playlist Toolbar at the bottom of the site stores your playlists and makes them all easily accessible.  You can choose to play any of your playlists from the My Playlists pop-up menu, and the Playlist Toolbar will show you which playlist is Now Playing.  You can skip to different videos within the playlist using the arrow buttons on the Playlist Toolbar, and you can see all of the videos in a playlist that are currently playing by clicking the up arrow at the far right of the Playlist Toolbar.  Once expanded, you can remove videos from a playlist (if you own it) by clicking the "x" at the top right of the video thumbnail, and it's also possible to rearrange videos by dragging the handle on their left side.  If you're watching a video and click the " " sign on the Playlist Toolbar, you can create a new playlist with that video, and we'll automatically include the Suggested Videos listed to the right of the video player, too (typically making playlists of 21 videos).  You can share playlists via email and embeds with the Share button, which is next to the " " sign.

If you are logged into your account, you can click My Playlists in the drop-down menu next to your username at the top right of the site to see a list of all of your playlists with the option to expand each one to see every video in a particular playlist.  Once expanded, you can delete videos from a playlist if you so desire.  You also can choose to Play All, Rename, Share and Delete each playlist from here, too.

ACCOUNT
You can create a Roxwel account by either connecting with Facebook or signing up with an email address, desired username and password.  Having an account allows you to create Playlists, Favorite Videos and Become a Fan of your favorite Artists, as well as comment on the site.  We'll also send you a weekly email with new and featured videos, along with recommended videos for you based on your site activity.

You can find My Favorites, My Artists and My Playlists in the drop-down menu next to your username at the top right of the site.  Clicking any of these brings you to My Dashboard where you can easily move back-and-forth  between My Favorites, My Artists, My Playlists and My Settings.

My Favorites
You can add videos to My Favorites by hovering over a video thumbnail or by clicking the Favorite button below the player when you're watching a video.

If you access My Favorites through My Dashboard, you can see every video you have favorited on Roxwel.  Here, you can delete videos from My Favorites or choose to Play All.  If you choose to Play All, you'll see that My Favorites is playing in the Playlist Toolbar at the bottom of the site.

My Artists

You can Become A Fan of an artist by visiting their Artist page.  An Artist page is where you can find all of an artist's Videos, Photos, Comments and Similar Artists, as well as a link to their upcoming Events in your area.  You can access all Artist pages by clicking the Artists tab in the top navigation bar and browsing from there.  If you're watching a video, you can access that particular artist's page by clicking Expand next to About This Video and then clicking the artist's name below the video description.

If you access My Artists through My Dashboard, you can see all of your favorite artists with the option to expand each artist listed to show all of their videos on Roxwel.  Hovering over each artist listed lets you Play All videos, start Party Mode, view the Artist Profile or Remove them from your favorites.

My Playlists
(see PLAYLISTS above)

Settings
If you access your Settings through My Dashboard, you can update your Personal Info (First and Last Name, Gender, Birthday), Username/Password, Email Settings (Primary Email Address, E-Newsletter preference) and your
Location (City, State, Country).

SOCIAL
We've added some new social features to the site, including a deeper Facebook integration, Google and Pinterest.  Sharing via Twitter is still an option, too.

Below the video player, you can share videos via Facebook, Twitter and Google .  If you're logged in via Facebook, you can also comment on a video and choose to post the comment and link on your Facebook page.

You can share your favorite Artist pages via Facebook, Twitter and Google .  Additionally, you can share photos on an Artist page via Twitter, Facebook and Pinterest.

In the News section, you can share articles via Facebook, Twitter, Google and Pinterest.
