I cannot begin to tell you how much I've been digging on Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros lately.  I'm already fiending for a new album from them because I've been listening to Up From Below, their debut LP released in 2009, nearly everyday for the last couple months - it's freakin' fantastic!  Seriously.  If you haven't checked it out, immediately stop what you're doing and take a listen...now I say (sorry, don't mean to be bossy, but it's just so good!).  Consequence of Sound had a really good write up about it that's just so spot on - everything I've felt about Up From Below but couldn't put into words:

"It carries a sound that bounces with such a sentimental swagger that you’re prone to smiling like a goofball hours later. It’s a strange concoction, too. Think about those hard hitting moments of any Johnny Cash/June Carter duet, add it to that feeling you get when you listen to early Arcade Fire tunes, especially the tracks that force you to sing along whether you’re alone or with friends, and then set it all to the enclosed intimacy of a warm camp fire. Yes...that sound."

"Home" is my absolute favorite song on the LP, and I think its similarities to the Talking Heads' "Naive Melody" message-wise are undeniable: "Ahh Home. Let me go home. Home is wherever I'm with you." And guess what??  "Naive Melody" is one of my all-time faves!  I just happened across the video for "Home" and had to share...don't ya just feel all warm and fuzzy inside?!

Edward Sharpe and the Magenetic Zeros are touring extensively this summer, hitting up most markets and a ton of festivals: Sasquatch, Bonnaroo, Telluride Bluegrass Festival, High Sierra, Newport Folk Festival, Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits.  Do yourself a favor and do not miss 'em!
