    The Black LIps

The Black Lips andGZA are formally releasing their track together, titled 'The Drop I Hold,' even if the former cops to the cheese often found with rap/rock fusion. "[It's a] bad idea," the Lips' Jared Swilley tells Spinner of rap/rock combos. "It's led to some of the worst music of all-time. It can be done tastefully, but there is a very fine line to be tread." Good luck with that, guys, but what inquiring minds really want to know: What would your Wu-Tang alias be? "Elvis' Pelvis," he says.

    Deastro

Randolph Chabot has been making albums since he was 12 years old -- now, at 22, the Detroit-based musician known as Deastro is ready for his close-up.

Chicago-based photographer/videographer James P. Morse -- a longtime friend and collaborator of Ghostly International's -- followed Chabot around Detroit for a day and edited the footage into "Ghostly Presents: Deastro," a video profile whose warm, colorful aesthetic matches Chabot's energy and positivity to a T. Chabot putters around his Detroit home, visits his favorite bookstore, gushes about Isaac Asimov and Simone de Beauvoir, and plays a sweaty, packed show with his band. It's a loving portrait of an artist who stays true to his beliefs, staying passionate, engaged, and creative in all of his endeavors.

Deastro's full-band debut, Moondagger, arrives on June 23rd, and the second single "Vermillion Plaza" -- along with its B-side, a squelchy, lumbering remix by Ghostly Swim featured artist Mux Mool -- drops May 12th on Ghostly International. In the meantime, enjoy "Spritle" which is taken from the "Spritle" 7" released on Five Three Dial Tone.

    My Dear Disco

Listen to My Dear Disco- White Lies

Listen to My Dear Disco- Remix Franz Ferdinand- "Ulysses"

Emerging from the Ann Arbor suburb of Detroit, My Dear Disco has been cutting a path throughout the Midwest with its addictive self-branded style of “danethink” music which displays influences from Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder to Daft Punk and Tom Waits. The band has kept busy in the studio as well, recently producing remixes of Kanye West’s “Love Lockdown” and Franz Ferdinand’s “Ulysses”  that incorporate the band’s live instrumentation into each tune’s original tracks.

Known for its distinctive, “Dancethink Music,” My Dear Disco’s debut album Dancethink LP  has met with much critical acclaim since its release and the band’s unique sound and style has begun to make waves nationwide.  The album features mixes by Grammy-nominated engineer Mark Saunders and his multi-platinum record generating studio in New York, the same people responsible for the sound of Shiny Toy GunsWe Are Pilots, Tricky’s Maxinquaye, David Byrne’s Feelings, and The Cure’s Wish. Additionally, the band’s high energy, inventive live shows have been generating hard-fought praise all their own.

In 2008, My Dear Disco was named one of the most promising bands in the country by American Eagle’s “New Music Union” and was invited to perform at the American Eagle Summer Festival, curated by Anthony Kiedis of Red Hot Chili Peppers.  This resulted in a fully-stocked summer 2008 festival schedule where the band performed alongside artists such as Lotus, Moe, Buckethead, and Bela Fleck. My Dear Disco continues on the road and will hit the festival circuit once again in the summer of 2009, in full-flight, following its “Dancethink Music,” wherever it takes them.

    Hungry Villagers

It’s no mistake that Jacob, Abraham and David Houck of the Hungry Villagers can have this affect on music lovers. The brothers’ lives have been fully saturated with music, starting in South Africa as children, when their parents preached and played gospel music to the local villages. Thus the Villagers were born, and now with the rhythmic backbone added by drummer Ferrick Hallaron IV, the band is complete.

Hungry Villagers will release their first single "Little Fingers"
digitally and on vinyl March 17.

    Metric

Following 2005's highly acclaimed Live It Out, Metric returns with their highly anticipated fourth full length studio album Fantasies.  Written by the band in a farmhouse outside Seattle and by frontwoman Emily Haines while on a soul-cleansing sojourn to Argentina, Fantasies is a densely textured modern mix of psychedelia, electro, and rock with a "really big and really dreamy" sound, says guitarist/co-founder Jimmy Shaw.

Haines adds, "For me, the major influences on the record were the places we wrote it: Bear Creek, this utopian farmhouse studio, and then our own studio in Toronto, which definitely brought in the electro, dance and rock elements because the city feels so good right now and so many of our musician friends were around. And then for me, being in Buenos Aires, most of the songs I brought to this record came out of being in exile with just a piano and a guitar. And then in the final stages, mixing at Electric Lady in NYC brought everything around to where we first met Josh and Joules.”
