Toadies

American alternative rock band Toadies formed in Fort Worth, Texas in 1989. Though the band has had an eclectic, rotating lineup since its inception, the core of the band’s lineup consists of frontman Todd Lewis, drummer Mark Reznicek, bassist Lisa Umbarger, and guitarist Clark Vogeler. The Toadies became regionally famous across Texas in the early 1990’s, eventually signing a record deal with Interscope Records in 1994.

The band released their first full-length album (they had independently launched an EP entitled Pleather years before) Rubberneck in mid-1994 on Interscope. A surprising success, the album sold over a million copies and produced four hit singles, including "Away" and "Possum Kingdom". In the wake of Rubberneck the Toadies toured aggressively throughout the mid 1990’s, opening for major acts like The Red Hot Chili Peppers and Bush and touring with regionally acclaimed bands like Supersuckers and The Reverend Horton Heat.

The Toadies planned to follow up the success of Rubberneck with the release of their second album Hell Below/Stars Above in 1998 but Interscope rejected the first itineration of the album, and as a result Hell Below/Stars Above was heavily edited and not released until 2001. The Toadies left the label soon after, and due to internal conflicts the band broke up later that year - Todd Lewis would go on to form hard rock outfit Burden Brothers, while Mark Reznicek would go on to join Texas outlaw country band Eleven Hundred Springs.

Despite their breakup, the Toadies would go on to occasionally play a number of reunion shows and festivals - most notably at Dallas’s Edgefest in 2006. After a surprisingly popular mini-tour across Texas in 2007, The Toadies are once again picking up their guitars and returning to the forefront of the music scene. Toadies are a post-grunge band from Fort Worth, Texas. The band's best known lineup consisted of Todd Lewis (guitar, vocals) Mark Reznicek (drums), Lisa Umbarger (bass), and Clark Vogeler (guitar). When the band reformed in 2006, Umbarger amicably declined to participate and has been replaced by Doni Blair. They are best known for the hit single "Possum Kingdom," from their album Rubberneck. This song was named after Possum Kingdom State Park, in Palo Pinto County, Texas.

The band formed in 1989. Toadies officially disbanded in 2001, although they had farewell concerts in 2002. The band reformed for a reunion show on March 11, 2006, headlining the Greenville Ave St. Patrick's Day parade concert.

Toadies toured extensively throughout the 1990s, opening for such artists as Red Hot Chili Peppers, White Zombie, Bush, and The Butthole Surfers. They also headlined and co-headlined tours with acts such as Brutal Juice, Baboon, Supersuckers, and The Reverend Horton Heat.

The primary reason for the breakup of the band was that Lisa Umbarger simply did not want to be a part of it anymore, and bandleader Todd Lewis felt that the band could not continue without her.

Since disbanding, members of the band have gone on to other projects. Todd Lewis is now in The Burden Brothers and Mark Reznicek is now in Eleven Hundred Springs.

Toadies reunited for 4 shows in Texas in March 2007. They played one show in Dallas, one in Houston, and two shows in Austin at Stubb's BBQ. All of the shows sold out shortly after they went onsale.

Toadies have reunited for good in 2008, announcing the release of their new album, "No Deliverance" which is to be released on August 15th 2008.
