Silverstein

Silverstein is a post-hardcore/emo band from Burlington, Ontario. Though their lineup has shifted somewhat through the years, the founding members of the band met on The 905 Board, a web forum about the local Ontario hardcore music scene. The band’s current lineup consists of Neil Boshart on lead guitar, Bill Hamilton on bass, Shane Todd on drums, Paul Koehler on drums, and Josh Bradford on rhythm guitar. The band takes their name from Shel Silverstein, a children’s author famed for his whimsical poetry.

The band began practicing around Christmas 2001, and independently released a number of regionally successful LP’s over the next few years. By 2003 they had signed to Victory Records (A large Chicago-based independent record label primarily representing hardcore and emo bands) and released their first full length album, entitled When Broken is Easily Fixed. Riding on the hype generated by their successful single "Giving Up", the band continued to tour and record their second album, Discovering The Waterfront, in 2005.

Throughout this time the Canadian band began to amass a large fan base in America; Discovering The Waterfront reached a respectable 35th spot on the Billbord 200 and sold over 300,000 copies. Single "Smile in Your Sleep" was even a featured track on an EA Sports videogame, MVP 06: NCAA Baseball. The band also appeared on a number of major music tours in 2005 and 2006, including the Vans Warped Tour and the Taste of Chaos Tour, along with bands like Aiden and He is Legend.
