Plain White T’s are a pop group composed of Tom Higgenson on vocals, Tim Lopez on guitar, Mike Retondo on bass and De’Mar Hamilton on drums. Higgenson originally formed the band in 1997 and spent two years working the club circuit in Chicago before being seriously injured in a car accident and spending a significant amount of time recuperating. A newfound perspective and appreciation for life was reflected in the group’s renewed approach to songwriting, and it was enough to get them signed to Atlantic Records in 2000.
After minimal success at becoming more than a regional band, and following a 4 year period that saw the release of an album on a new label and their first US tour, Higgenson decided to shake things up and replaced the entire lineup of the band. The album All That We Needed was supported by yet another tour, and the single “Hey There Delilah” was released as a special EP in 2006. The band failed to make any significant progress in terms of achieving national recognition and they were dropped by their label.
Luckily for Plain White T’s, their breakthrough would come – it was only a matter of timing. After moving on to a new label, Hollywood, and releasing the album Every Second Counts later that fall, Hollywood decided to spike languid sales by re-releasing "Hey There Delilah" as a single in the spring of 2007. They were convinced that the track had enormous potential and they were soon rewarded. The single climbed to the number one spot on the US charts and was a phenomenal success across the world. The current single “Hate (I Really Don’t Like You)” is currently a massive success in Europe and is cementing Plain White T’s as one of the most popular, enduring acts of 2007. Their current tour sees them selling out venues around the globe.
