It was in the year 1997, vocalist J.R. Hayes, guitarist Scott Hull and drummer John Evans formed the band Pig Destroyer (previously known as Cop Destroyer, but was later changed). As soon as the band got formed they started rehearsing. It didn't take long before the trio released a self-titled demo, and participated on a split with Orchid, which quickly sold out. In 1998 they did an East Coast tour with bands such as Drop Dead, Converge, Kid Dynamite and Isis. Same year they also parted ways with drummer John Evans, who later was replaced by Brian Harvey. They also started playing more shows, and they also released an album by the name "Explosions in Ward 6" which made them rise from the underground to be known as one of the better grindcore bands. More tours were planned together with bands like: Discordance Axis, Phobia, Daybreak, Dillinger Escape Plan and Disassociate. They also played at the 2000 March Metal Meltdown, which gave them ever more publicity. In July 2000, the band got signed with mighty label, Relapse. A 7" split was made with Isis and 2000 copies were made. It sold out in a month. They later recorded and released "38 Counts Of Battery", which included the remastered "Explosions In Ward 6" album, tracks from the Isis and Orchid splits and their demo from 1997. In 2001, they released "Prowler in the yard" which is the most extreme album they've made to date. The album got them even more fame, and the band is now of the leading Grindcore bands. In 2004 they released the compilation album, "Painter of Dead Girls".
Pig Destroyer is a grindcore band based in Virginia, USA first formed in 1997. Combining old school grindcore with doom and thrash elements, Pig Destroyer have pushed the boundaries of the grind genre and gained a large following. Their unique sound is notable for its absence of bass guitar on their studio albums.
The band was formed in 1997 with vocalist J.R. Hayes (former vocalist Enemy Soil), guitarist Scott Hull (Agoraphobic Nosebleed, Anal Cunt, Japanese Torture Comedy Hour, and more), and drummer John Evans. John Evans was replaced by Brian Harvey in 1998. Blake Harrison joined the band in late 2006 adding noise and samples to the mix.
The band, in their earlier more ?politically-charged? days, had originally wanted to name themselves in protest of law and authority. Believing that ?Cop Killer? and ?Cop Destroyer? were too obvious in meaning, they eventually settled on ?Pig Destroyer? (?pig? being a slang term for the police). Derived from a non-musical source as extreme as the band?s sound, Pig Destroyer?s easily-identifiable logo took form when the emblem from the infamous Answer Me! magazine was disassembled and rearranged.
Relapse signed the band and issued a Pig Destroyer / Isis 7? (PxDx covered the Carcass classics Genital Grinder and Regurgitation Of Giblets) on the label?s Singles Series in July 2000. 38 Counts of Battery was released in 2000. This album was a complete discography up until this point which included the remastered tracks of Explosions in Ward 6, the demo, the tracks from the Isis split, and more. Their second-most recent release, Terrifyer, contains a 30 minute DVD track entitled Natasha.
The band released their latest album ?Phantom Limb? as of June of 2007. The album was released to abundant critical praise.
