OPOPO have crafted an act that energizes audiences with raw force. Their electric tones and driving beats were designed for the club, and their rhythms always spark the party. The three blend synthesizers with guitars and bass, while looping vocals and screams shake the dance floor. Their tunes are progressive electro powered by rock.
Days have been spent exploring electronics, and sessions from their jams have been recorded, spliced and fragmented into an intricate sound map- with home production and studio sessions meeting in the middle. It was these intense periods of focus that produced their self-titled OPOPO EP. All 6 tracks are hardwired with layers that delve deep, but it is the relentless beat that remains the locus of their control. Through climactic beats and ominous tones, OPOPO transforms their venue into an electric night with the three rumbling at the epicenter.
The members of the group (Bryan vocals/guitar, Corey vocals/synth, Craig vocals/bass guitar) met underground nearly a decade ago. They have worked together on many musical projects, including a ska band in high school. Super TA, as it was called, gave them a taste for playing Toronto gigs and developed their ability to work together musically at an early stage. They played such venues as the Opera House, The Reverb, and the Comfort Zone. They disbanded in 2002 after a solid two year run and remained good friends and artistic partners. In the summer of 2006, Bryan and Corey began seriously writing music again and it was only a matter of time before Craig completed the trio.
OPOPO tells its own narrative through lyric and melody, which compliment their skills in graphic arts and poetry. Coupled with the intensity of an unrestrained presence on stage, their musical project evolved into an eclectic mix of lights, visual graphics and uncanny sounds that fuse outlandish artistic expression with their intricate rhythms. Using the raw sounds of analog synthesizers, harmonic vocals, heavy bass and crushing beats, OPOPO takes the audience on a trip through their melodic spectrum, working the senses with playful yet foreboding sounds. "CLOCKSTOP" has been a fan favorite always provoking the audience to sing along. COMPUTER MENACE exposes a darker side of the group, with its sinister tone and melodic structure. ODOKTRO is the root of their sound- punchy beats on top of harmonic layers.
On stage, each brings their own skill. The live execution of OPOPO in concert exposes their ability to match each other's intensity. They have played throughout Toronto including Lee's Palace, The Drake Underground and The Opera House opening for The Klaxons. They are planning a North American tour, as well as a European tour during the summer of 2008.
