Instrumental Post Rock band from Auckland, New Zealand.Their album "Vilayer" has been lauded and nominated for the 2010 Taite Music Prize - the New Zealand equivalent of the UK's Mercury Awards for song-writing.
This blistering instrumental three-piece from the hinterlands of Auckland, New Zealand has enchanted audiences with its rhythmic onslaught since 2006.
Described variously as ?lead-heavy? with ?sparse and beautiful? moments, the trio have carved out a unique brand of dark rock that is scattered with melodic hooks.
Their catchy, sometimes ambient brand of molten-core will appeal to fans of Swans and Bailterspace, but discerning listeners will know the trio peddle a uniquely atmospheric take on angular rock. A performance in January 2009 at The Big Day Out festival helped them go on to share stages with Explosions In The Sky, Jakob and more recently North American band, The Breeders.
Their 12" on coloured grey vinyl entitled "Antient" features 4 exclusive tracks [and free downloads with every copy!] recorded in Port Chalmers, New Zealand with one of the kings of audio interference, Dale Cotton, and was released on December 8 2008. Their debut 7" "Death in the Future" as well as "Antient" are in stores now in New Zealand, Europe, North America or sakistore.net, smokecds.com, and www.amplifier.co.nz for digital download. Also available on the very limited edition 12" compilation entitled "Effectuation" [Midium Records] is their track "Shoot This Messenger". This track is only available on this 12" and digital download from itunes and www.amplifier.co.nz. Kerretta additionally remixed Pitch Black's "Bird Soul" for their 2009 remix LP.
?Listen to this and make sure you turn up the volume.? (Flying Nun record label founder Roger Shepherd on Kerretta's debut album 'Vilayer'.)
The band's triumphant debut LP Vilayer was released in NZ during the last half of 2009 ? and was nominated for the 2010 Taite Music Prize - the New Zealand equivalent of the UK?s Mercury Awards for song-writing achievement.
Kerretta have completed an introductory tour of the USA, playing shows across the country and gaining new fans at each stop during March/April 2010. Their 'Vilayer' album is available in the USA through Carrot Top Distro and was released in Europe by the Golden Antenna label on May 28th, 2010, to widespread European critical acclaim. www.goldenantenna.com
