Underground dance sensation Chromeo is a really special band, and I don’t mean special like “special needs” or “special teams” or anything like that; I mean special like “one-of-a-kind”, “unique”, and “awesome”. I would say that they are an “especial” band, because technically that’s grammatically correct but I think especial sounds too pretentious and pompous so I don’t use the word too much. The brainchild of P-Thugg (Patrick Gemayel) and Dave 1 (David Macklovitch), childhood friends from Montreal, Quebec, Chromeo is one of the hottest underground dance acts in North America right now, and for good reason - their glammed-out amalgamation of funk, electro, and hip-hop is impossible to not dance to.

Dave 1 and P-Thugg are quite the unlikely pair. P-Thugg is a heavyset, rough-looking Arabic dude with an extensive knowledge of 1980’s hip-hop and Roland TR-808’s; Dave 1 is a tall and lanky Jewish guy, a self-professed mama’s boy who dabbles in guitar, singing, and French Literature - he is currently working on his doctorate at Columbia University. At some point in the early 2000’s the duo began performing together in the club scene billing themselves as Chromeo, alternating between their hometown of Montreal and the music mecca of New York City.

After releasing a couple of singles on vinyl that began to receive respectable rotation in dance circles, Chromeo released their first album She’s in Control in early 2004, a joint venture between record labels Vice and V2. Spearheaded by tracks like "Rage!" and "Needy Girl", the duo’s dirty, tongue-in-cheek lyrics and all too cheesy synth hooks took to the forefront on She‘s in Control, leaving music critics both dancing along and scratching their heads in disbelief.
